Tuesdays, starting at 3 p.m. and on the last Sunday morning of the month (January 26, February 23 and March 30), the Planétarium is tailoring its visiting experience to the needs of people with autism or other people with sensory sensitivities. What’s changing on these sessions: Lighting and sound levels are softened in our theaters and Rouge 2100 exhibition area. Sensory kits are available (and this at all times, even outside Sensory-friendly afternoons). During these sessions, everyone can feel comfortable: Entering and exiting at their own pace during screenings of the show. Expressing their needs (making noise, talking or moving around, and so on). Using their digital devices to meet accessibility needs. Accessing a quiet room for greater calm. Can neurotypical people also come to the show? Yes, the program remains the same. While knowing that the environment will be adapted to the needs of autistic people and their families, everyone is welcome to Sensory-friendly sessions. The soothing ambiance may also be attractive to people with certain sound and visual sensitivities. We’re excited to be offering this pilot project, whose aim is to test-run the experience so that we can make the necessary adjustments and better serve our user base.
