Experience a unique cultural event in the Chinese Garden at the Jardin botanique de Montréal.

Attend a performance showcasing bian lian, a traditional art rooted in Sichuan opera. Interpreted by artist Jun, this unique practice combining costumes and masks is rarely seen in Quebec. You will be transported into a world where virtuosity borders on magic.

Bian lian, which means ''face changing'', captivates with its beauty and rhythm. In the blink of an eye, the performer switches masks, revealing colourful faces and contrasting emotions. Joy, anger, mischief, and courage flash across the stage at astonishing speed. Will you dare to blink?

Bian Lian - A Treasure of Ancient Chinese Theater

Born about three centuries ago, this illusionistic art has been passed down in secrecy from master to disciple. Bian lian is more than a stage craft: it remains a living symbol of the ingenuity and magic of traditional Chinese theater.

Within the nocturnal setting of the Chinese Garden, surrounded by glowing lanterns and an enchanting atmosphere, let yourself be drawn into a performance as mysterious as it is dazzling. It will delight culture enthusiasts as well as anyone seeking wonder.
