Step into the refined world of Chinese cloisonné enamel painting.

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll explore an ancient art form by creating vibrant floral designs while learning about their symbolism and history in Chinese artistic traditions.

Cloisonné enamel—known as 景泰蓝 (jǐng tài lán) in Chinese—is an ancient art form that was introduced to China between the 14th and 17th centuries. This intricate technique involves soldering fine metal wires onto a surface to form cloisonné (partitioned) patterns, which are then filled with colourful enamel. Traditionally, the pieces are fired at high temperatures, then polished to a glossy finish. In our workshop, you’ll use a simplified, kiln-free method that still captures the beauty and brilliance of this exquisite art form.
