SPEAKER Katie Szilagyi is a PhD candidate in law at the University of Ottawa. Drawing from training as both an engineer and a lawyer\, she is investigating the potential erosio n of the rule of law due to machine learning algorithms\, predictive analy tics\, and the fact that people are constantly staring at their smartphone s. Previously\, she clerked at Canada’s Federal Court of Appeal\, worked as a litigator at a large commercial law firm\, and traveled the world so lo. When not thinking about artificial intelligence\, or staring at her sm artphone\, she teaches yoga\, rides bicycles\, and searches for the perfec t cup of coffee.
