DESCRIPTION:Le panneau et la grenouille (The Panel and the Bullfrog) La con
 férence portera sur les panneaux de béton préfabriqué produits par l
 ’URSS au début de la Guerre froide\, puis exportés à Cuba et au Chili
 . Une épopée\, voir une fable\, que Pedro Ignacio Alonso a retracée dan
 s un projet de recherche transdisciplinaire qu’il a mené avec Hugo Palm
 arola et qui touche non seulement à l’histoire de l’architecture et a
 ux techniques de construction\, mais à la culture visuelle\, l’histoire
  du travail et des relations internationales. Cette recherche a donné lie
 u au livre Panel (AA\, 2014) et à l’exposition Monolith Controversies p
 résentée au pavillon du Chili à la 14e Biennale d’architecture de Ven

\nThe Panel and the BullfrogThe talk will ad
 dress the international transfer of large-concrete panel systems of prefab
 rication during the Cold War years\, focusing on the USSR\, Cuba and Chile
 . By way of presenting the book Panel (AA\, 2014) and the Chile pavilion a
 t the 14th Venice Biennale of Architecture 2014\, Alonso will review a tra
 nsdisciplinary research project conducted together with Hugo Palmarola\, t
 ouching not only on the histories of architecture and construction technol
 ogy\, but also visual culture\, labor history\, and international relation
 s\, and their display through a single panel. 
\nPedro Ignacio Alonso est 
 architecte et professeur agrégé à l'Universidad Católica de Chile où 
 il enseigne la théorie et la conception architecturale. Il est aussi dire
 cteur du programme de l’Architectural Association Visiting School à San
 tiago (Chili). Avec Hugo Palmarola\, il a remporté le Lion d'argent pour 
 l’exposition Monolith Controversies présentée au Pavillon du Chili à 
 la 14e Biennale d'Architecture de Venise en 2014. Ils ont publié les livr
 es Panel (Architectural Association\, 2014) et Monolith Controversies (Hat
 je Cantz\, 2014) qui a obtenu un DAM Architectural Book Award du Deutsches
  Architekturmuseum de Francfort. Alonso est titulaire d'une maîtrise en a
 rchitecture de l'Universidad Católica de Chile et a complété son doctor
 at à l'Architectural Association de Londres. Il a organisé des expositio
 ns à l'Architectural Association à Londres\, au Pratt Institute à New Y
 ork\, au Museum of Art de Tel Aviv et au Centre culturel de Sao Paulo au B
 résil. Alonso est également l'auteur de Deserta: Ecology and Industry in
  the Atacama Desert  (ARQ\, 2012) et a publié nombreux articles dans les
  revues AA Files\, San Rocco\, Manifest et des chapitres de livres avec Ro
 utledge (2013) et MIT Press (2014). Il est actuellement Princeton-Mellon F
 ellow 2015-2016 à l'Université de Princeton.
