DESCRIPTION:The summer school on diplomacy and statecraft will center aroun
 d the question : how does diplomacy affect international relations indepe
 ndent of other important factors such as power ? Do diplomats matter ? W
 hat is it about diplomacy that makes agreements more or less easy to reach
 \, helps avoid war\, or allows those who excel at it to do better than the
 y might have otherwise ? What makes good or bad diplomat ? We will draw 
 on insights from a variety of disciplines (including but not limited to ps
 ychology\, sociology\, economics\, and neuroscience) to explore the phenom
 enon of diplomacy\, going in-depth into cases such as the end of the Cold 
 War and the appeasement of Nazi Germany.
