SUMMARY:Conférence du Professeur Han Zuilhof (Wageningen)
DESCRIPTION:Titre : From Passivating Monolayers to Romantic Surfaces: Surfa
ce Chemistry for Better Interface Control.Endroit : Pavillon J.-A.-Bombard
 ier\, salle 1035 à 9 hHôte : Professeure Françoise Winnik
\nLa confére
nce sera prononcée par le professeur Han Zuilhof\, du laboratoire de chim
ie organique de la Wageningen University (Pays-Bas).
\nRésumé : Over the
last decade the modification of surfaces by the stable and directed attac
hment of a monolayer of organic molecules has allowed a range of novel phy
sical and biological phenomena. The presentation outlines the basic chemis
try behind this\, and applications from ultra-low friction surfaces to ant
i-fouling coatings. Along the way I will show the power of mass spectromet
ry in the surface analysis of such thin layers. Finally\, I’ll wrap up w
 ith a molecular love story.
\n
\nFigure 1.  Covalently attached monolayer
s and several of their applications: a) local functionalization with DNA-c
oupled enzymes inside microfluidic devices\, b) surface passivation of oxi
 de-free silicon nanoparticles\, c) romantic surfaces.
\nKey papers for thi
