DESCRIPTION:In view of the upcoming performances of the Book of Mormon Musi
 cal in Montreal in December 2014\, acclaimed scholar\, Richard L.\, Bushma
 n\, Governeur Morris Professor of History\, Emeritus\, at Colombia Univers
 ity\, and editor of the Joseph Smith papers\, will be giving a public lect
 ure at 5:15 pm on November 4\, 2014\, at McGill University’s Birks Herit
 age Chapel located at 3520 University Street
Montreal\, Quebec H3A 2A7. 
 Professor Bushman will be discussing the Book of Mormon in cultural contex
 t and will be reviewing why the book\, which is a sacred text for an emerg
 ing world religion\, has perplexed scholars and laypeople alike with respe
 ct to its controversial beginnings.The lecture is sponsored by the McGill 
 University Faculty of Religious Studies\; the Concordia University Departm
 ent of Religious Studies\, Faculty of Arts and Science\; and the Universit
