SUMMARY:Ionic Liquids for energy storage/conversion in electrochemical syst
ems – Francesca Soavi\, Udi Bologna
DESCRIPTION:Francesca Soavi\, Dipartimento di Chimica «Giacomo Ciamician
 »\, Universita di Bologna\, Via Selmi\, 2 Bologna\, Italy.A sustainable
energy economy requires the development of new\, high-efficiency\, energy-
conversion/storage technologies. This is where lithium batteries and super
capacitors come in. Research into these electrochemical systems is mainly
devoted to implementing the specific power of batteries and the specific e
nergy of supercapacitors\, with safety as primary issue. Much attention ha
s been devoted to the use of ionic liquids (ILs)-based electrolytes for th
eir intrinsically higher safety than the conventional carbonate–based on
es. Indeed\, the ILs feature very low vapour pressure\, low flammability\,
high chemical\, thermal and electrochemical stability\, and good conducti
vity particularly above room temperature. Here\, recent studies on the dev
elopment of IL-based supercapacitors and batteries at the LEME (Laboratory
of Electrochemistry of Materials for Energetics) group of the University
of Bologna will be presented and discussed. The lecture will focus on diff
erent configurations of IL-based supercapacitors and on the cutting-edge L
i/O2 batteries operating with IL-based electrolytesSite web du groupe de D
