SUMMARY:Non-equilibrium dynamics in primate populations: their implications
for conservation and the study of primate evolution.
DESCRIPTION:Conférence de Colin Chapman\, McGill University and Wildlife C
onservation Society\, New York.RésuméWhen the biology of declining popul
ations of primates in the wild is carefully studied\, it is apparent that
underlying the dynamics is a complex set of interactions arising from non-
equilibrium states. Only by understanding non-equilibrium dynamics can we
make meaningful predictions about population change beyound what is intuit
ively obvious\, therefore. This observation has implications for primate c
onservation efforts as well as for the study of primate evolution.Cette co
nférence est organisée par le Département d'anthropologie de l'Universi
