DESCRIPTION:The Sun's magnetic field makes the Sun a dynamic and fascinatin
 g star to be
\naround.   It gives structure to the solar atmosphere and li
 es at the core
\nof the violent releases of energy responsible for space w
 eather.  In this
\ninteractive talk we will introduce the Sun's magnetic f
 ield and the
\nmechanisms that lead to the build up and release of magneti
 c energy.  Then
\nwe will discuss the different ways in which this energy 
 is released and how
\nit affects the solar system and Earth as the home of
  a technological
\nsociety.  We will finalize with a quick look at the sol
 ar cycle\, how it
\nworks\, and how it changes the conditions in our solar
  system during the
\ncourse of a decade.
