SUMMARY:Fadwa El-Mellouhi\, QEERI - Designing materials for renewable ener
 gy generation and storage
DESCRIPTION:Prof. Fadwa El-Mellouhi\, Senior Scientist au Qatar Environment
and Energy Research Institute (QEERI)\, PO Box 5825\, Doha\, Qatar.
\nNo
wadays\, the integration of renewable energy to the electrical grid is fac
ing multiple challenges such environmental impact and competitive cost. Th
ese challenges motivated research in photovoltaic energy generation and it
s storage\, among others. For example\, the photovoltaic field has witness
ed a unique emergence for a new family of solar cell materials\; namely hy
brid perovskite solar cells. Within a span of few years\, an efficiency ab
ove 22% was achieved\, still commercialization needs to improve the perovs
kites’ intrinsic stability. Storing the generated solar energy constitut
e another challenge that called for the design of low cost and environment
ally friendly materials for batteries aiming to reach high specific capaci
ties. Here I will summarize our recent efforts in computationally designin
g active materials for energy generation and storage.
\nSite web du groupe
