 strategies for the synthesis of polycyclic alkaloids. Natural products suc
 h as daphnicyclidin A (1) and ileabethoxazole (2) have provided the inspir
 ation for fundamental discoveries of reactivity and reagents which have le
 d to efficient methods for the rapid assembly of molecular complexity.
