DESCRIPTION:On Breathing Buildings And Termite Mounds (Or How to Disinvent 
 the Need For Air-Conditioning)À propos de la ventilation des bâtiments e
 t des termitières (ou comment se passer de systèmes de climatisation) Sa
 lmaan Craig a étudié en conception de produits avant d'entreprendre un d
 octorat en génie (EngD) à Brunel University en collaboration avec Buro H
 appold ingénieurs-conseils. Pendant ses études\, il a conçu et testé u
 n matériau s’inspirant de la nature visant à protéger les bâtiments 
 du soleil et de la chaleur ambiante\, tout en permettant le refroidissemen
 t par rayonnement vers l’extérieur.Après avoir terminé son doctorat\,
  Salmaan a poursuivi à Buro Happold comme ingénieur  spécialisé en co
 nstruction de façades\, notamment pour la conception de systèmes pour de
 s climats extrêmes\, comme le dôme du Louvre Abu Dhabi. Il a ensuite œu
 vré à titre de  Modeling Specialist chez Foster + Partners\, tout en co
 ntinuant à développer ses intérêts de recherche dans le cadre de proje
 ts de construction de grande envergure\, comme l'Institut Masdar\, Campus 
 Apple et Bloomberg Place.Maintenant à Harvard\, Salmaan enseigne aux futu
 rs architectes comment\, en alliant des matériaux simples\, ils peuvent m
 ieux orchestrer les courants thermiques qui circulent dans les bâtiments.
  Il poursuit également ses recherches\, dans le même ordre d’idées\, 
 mais par-delà l'architecture\, avec la mise au point de chaussures offran
 t une meilleure thermorégulation.
\n---Salmaan Craig studied Product Desi
 gn before undertaking an Engineering Doctorate (EngD) hosted by Brunel Uni
 versity and Buro Happold consulting engineers. During this time he designe
 d and tested a biologically inspired material for protecting buildings fro
 m solar and ambient heat\, while allowing them to cool through radiation t
 o the sky and outer space.
\nAfter completing his doctorate\, Salmaan cont
 inued at Buro Happold as a Facade Engineer\, specialising in the design of
  material systems in extreme climates\, such as the perforated\, multilaye
 r dome of the Louvre Abu Dhabi. He then moved to the Specialist Modeling G
 roup at Foster + Partners\, continuing to develop his research interests i
 n the context of a number of high profile building projects\, such as the 
 Masdar Institute\, Apple Campus\, and Bloomberg Place.
\nNow at Harvard\, 
 Salmaan teaches young architects how\, by the composition of simple materi
 als\, they can better orchestrate the thermal currents that flow through b
 uildings\, and pursues research in this same area. His portfolio of indepe
 ndent consulting activities has now extended beyond architecture to includ
 e the design of shoes for improved thermoregulation.
