SUMMARY:Conférence du Professeur Normand Voyer (Laval)
DESCRIPTION:Titre: Developing Functional Peptide Nanostructures: Artificial
  Ion Channels and the Like
\nEndroit : Pavillon 3200 Jean-Brillant\, salle
  B-3250 à 10 hHôte : Andreea Schmitzer
\nCette conférence sera pron
oncée (en anglais)par le Professeur Normand Voyer du département de
  chimie de l'Université Laval.
\nRésumé: Through evolution\, Nature has
created numerous amazing functional supramolecular devices of nanometer d
imensions. Such nanodevices can perform sophisticated processes with an ef
ficiency that is unrivaled by synthetic/artificial systems to date. This l
ecture will present our bio-inspired approach towards supramolecular nanos
trutures designed to be used as therapeutic agents or as nanocomponents fo
 r single molecule diagnostics.
\nOur approach is based on exploiting helic
al peptide nanostructures serving as molecular scaffolds for the construct
ion of supramolecular devices that mimick the ion transport properties of
ion channel proteins. As such\, the nanostructures can incorporate bilayer
membranes and allow the fast translocation of ions. Details will be prese
nted on the synthesis\, the characterization and the potential application
s of the peptide nanostructures in different areas.
\nInformation supplém
