SUMMARY:Conférence CRMAA avec le professeur Charles Michael Drain (Hunter
 College)
DESCRIPTION:Titre : Commercially Viable Dyes and Self-Organized Films for P
hotomic Applications.
al molecules bearing different dyes\, such as donor-acceptor systems\, syn
thesized by covalent chemistry have provided a wealth of information on th
e fundamental nature of electron and energy transfer in organic systems an
d there is a growing literature on the materials properties of dyes on sur
faces. However\, in the vast majority of cases the synthetic costs of prod
ucing these covalently bound systems prohibit them from deployment in comm
ercially viable devices. Thus\, to achieve both the needed multifunction
ality and to bring the synthetic costs in line with potential commercializ
ation\, supramolecular approaches to the formation of photonic materials c
an be exploited. This talk will focuses on porphyrinoids as exemplary dyes
\, but the concepts and design principles extend to other chromophores. In
