SUMMARY:Conférence du Professeur Michael Serpe (Alberta)
DESCRIPTION:Titre : Stimuli-Responsive Polymer-Based Sensors\, Muscles\, an
 d Drug Delivery Platforms.Endroit : Pavillon J.-A.-Bombardier\, salle 1035
  à 11 h.Hôte : Professeure Jean-François Masson.
\nCette conférence s
era prononcée en anglais par le professeur Michael Serpe du Département
de chimie de l'University of Alberta.
\nRésumé : Our research is focused
on the development of novel polymer-based materials for solving environme
ntal and health-related problems. To solve these problems\, the group prim
arily employs poly (N-isopropylacrylamide) (pNIPAm)-based spherical partic
les as the active component in our technologies. PNIPAm-based particles (n
ano or microgels\, depending on their diameter) are extremely porous\, and
are fully water soluble and swellable. Additionally\, pNIPAm-based nano/m
icrogels are responsive to temperature\, shrinking in diameter as the temp
erature is increased to >32 °C and reswelling when they are cooled to
\nI
