SUMMARY:Conférence de Delphine Bouilly\, Ph.D. (Columbia)
DESCRIPTION:Titre : Single-Molecule Biosensors Using Nanoscale Electronic D
 evices.
  Columbia University.
\nRésumé :Organic macromolecules like proteins and
nucleic acids regulate a wide variety of fundamental physiological proces
ses\, yet they are difficult to observe individually due to their small si
ze\, rapid fluctuations and complex environment. My research focuses on th
e design and application of single-molecule electronic biosensors\, which
are miniature electrical circuits capable to capture and probe individual
biomolecules\, in real time and over a uniquely-wide range of timescales.
In this presentation\, I will describe my results in developing original a
nd robust single-molecule device architectures that are able to detect\, t
hrough quantized fluctuations in electrical conductance\, successive chemi
cal reactions and conformational changes occurring on the same individual
molecule. In particular\, I will present recent experiments investigating
the conformational dynamics of human telomeric DNA\, by isolating an indiv
idual single-stranded DNA sequence and observing its repeated\, reversible
folding into a G‑quadruplex structure. Finally\, I will discuss my plan
s to expand this emerging technique to explore other biomolecular mechanis
ms\, for instance DNA hybridization\, enzyme catalysis or protein folding\
, and to develop lab‑on‑chip technology for biomarker-based diagnosis
 and monitoring.
\nInformation supplémentaire sur le groupe NuckollsAnnonc
