SUMMARY:Conférence 2/3 de la Professeure Nelsi Zaccheroni (Bologna)
DESCRIPTION:Titre : Merging Nanotechnology and Luminescence Signalling: Dye
-Doped Silica Nanoparticles for Biomedical Applications.Endroit : Pavillon
  J.-A.-Bombardier\, salle 1035 de 10 h à 11 h.Hôte : Professeur William
 Skene.
\nLa conférence sera prononcée (en anglais) par la professeure Ne
lsi Zaccheroni\, du Département de chimie de l'University of Bologna (Ita
 lie).
\nRésumé : Among the numerous possibilities of functional nanostru
ctures\, we focused on new dye-doped silica nanoparticles and we investiga
ted different synthetic approaches to obtain mono-disperse\, water soluble
nanoparticles (NPs) with a silica core (10 nm diameter) and an organic sh
ell (7 nm thick) that can host a certain number of dyes of different natur
 e. The optimization and proper design of these materials allowed us to mov
e from the study of molecular luminescent labels to nanostructured species
presenting improved properties. The fluorophores can be irreversibly incl
uded into the nanoparticles to obtain very bright and photostable nanoobje
cts with tunable emission spectral profiles and excitation wavelengths. Mo
reover\, their chemical versatility allows them to be coupled with suitabl
e biomolecules for specific target recognition. Incorporation of dyes acti
ve in the therapeutic and diagnostic transparency window facilitates the e
xcitation and detection of the NPs through biological tissues and\, theref
ore\, their implementation for medical applications. Examples of in-vivo\,
ex-vivo and in-vitro imaging will be presented.
\nInformation supplément
