SUMMARY:Strange Magnetism Exposed by Neutron Scattering - Collin Broholm (J
 ohns Hopkins)
DESCRIPTION:Strange Magnetism Exposed by Neutron Scattering
\nCollin Brohol
 m (Johns Hopkins)
\nA radically different form of magnetism defined by qua
ntum entanglement is explored using neutron scattering. Starting from illu
strative one-dimensional examples\, I discuss recent experiments that prob
e magnetic excitations in two and three-dimensional frustrated quantum mag
nets. In analogy with atomic positions in superfluid 4He\, atomic scale ma
gnetic dipoles in these materials exist in a state of quantum superpositio
n near the absolute zero temperature. While there is no static magnetic or
der to distinguish such materials they host exotic emergent quasi-particle
s that scatter neutrons. The potential relevance of the quantum spin liqui
d to high temperature superconductivity shall be illustrated through our r
ecent quantitative and spatially resolved measurements of the superconduct
ing condensation energy in Fe1+ySexTe1-x [3].
\nVoici le lien vers la page
