SUMMARY:Conférence Aldrich avec le Professeur Peter Stang (Utah)
DESCRIPTION:Titre : Abiological Self-Assembly: Predesigned Metallacycles an
 d Metallacages via Coordination.Endroit : Pavillon André-Aisenstadt\, sal
\nRésumé : The use of just two types of building bloc
ks\, linear and angular\, in conjunction with symmetry considerations allo
ws the rational design of a wide range of metallocyclic polygons and polyh
edra via the coordination motif. We have used this approach to self-assemb
le a variety of 2D supramolecular polygons such as triangles\, rectangles\
, squares\, hexagons\, etc. as well as a number of 3D supramolecular polyh
edra: truncated tetrahedra\, triginal prisms\, cubooctahedra anddodecahedr
 a. More recently we have functionalized these rigid supramolecular scaffol
ds with different electroactive\, host-guest\, dendritic\, and hydrophobic
/hydrophilic moieties and have investigated the properties of these multif
unctionalized supramolecular species. Additionally\, we have begun to expl
ore the selfassembly of 2D polygons and 3D polyhedra on a variety of surfa
ces with the aim of developing their potential to be used in device settin
gs. These novel\, supramolecular ensembles are characterized by physical a
nd spectral means. The design strategy\, formation\, characterization and
potential usesof these novel metallocyclic assemblies will be discussed\,
along with our recent results in crystal engineering.
\nInformation suppl
