SUMMARY:Conférence du Professeur Jean-Philip Lumb (McGill)
DESCRIPTION:Titre : Driving Synthesis by Oxidation.Endroit : Pavillon J.-A.
 -Bombardier\, salle 1035 à 11 h.Hôte : Professeur Shawn Collins.
\nLa co
nférence sera prononcée (en anglais) par le professeur Jean-Philip Lumb\
, du Département de chimie de l'Université McGill.
\nRésumé : The ther
modynamically favored reduction of molecular oxygen provides an ideal sour
ce of energy with which to drive chemical synthesis. When controlled\, aer
obic oxidations can rapidly increase molecular complexity\, often at the e
xpense of creating water as the sole byproduct. This lecture will detail o
ur group’s efforts in developing catalytic aerobic transformations for t
he purposes of synthesizing poly-functional small molecules and natural pr
oducts. We will also discuss a new strategy for the aerobic functionalizat
ion of low-valent metals\, which couples the energetic requirements of met
aloxidation to the reduction of molecular oxygen by way of a quinone-catec
 hol redox shuttle.
\nInformation supplémentaireAnnonce PDF de la confére
