SUMMARY:Conférence du Professeur Samuel Johnson (Windsor)
DESCRIPTION:Titre : The Fast and Furious: Tuning Nickel Complexes for C-H a
 nd C-F Bond Activation.Endroit : Pavillon Roger-Gaudry\, salle G-815 à 11
  hHôte : Professeur Davit Zargarian
\nLa conférence sera prononcée (en
anglais) par le professeur Samuel Johnson\, du Département de chimie de l
 'University of Windsor.
\nRésumé : The direct functionalization of tradi
tionally unreactive bonds\, such as C-H bonds provides a facile\, cheap an
d environmentally friendly route to the synthesis of organic compounds.
The development of methodologies for the use of relatively inexpensive 1st
row transition metals\, such as nickel\, in C-H and C-F bond activation c
ould revolutionize the importance of these catalytic functionalization rea
ctions in chemical synthesis\; unfortunately\, both kinetic and thermodyna
mic issues render this advancement difficult. Our group is working to demo
nstrate that through both ligand and reaction design nickel complexes can
be synthesized that are capable of the selective activation of these bonds
