\nRésumé : For a number of years the Roddick group has 
 been exploring applications of perfluorinated alkylphosphines (“PFAP’s
 ”) to challenging problems in organometallic chemistry and homogeneous c
 atalysis.  In this seminar we present the design of group 10 olefin oligo
 merization catalysts of the general form (R3P)2M(alkyl)(alkene)+\, and als
 o new PFAP “pincer-type” metal complexes of iridium and ruthenium whic
 h display good activities toward catalytic alkane dehydrogenation.  A dis
 cussion of the electronic and steric influence of PFAP pincer ligands and 
 their effect on coordination properties and reactivity will be presented.
