SUMMARY:Host-microbe interactions revealed by metabolomics
DESCRIPTION:Conférence du Dr L. Caetano M. Antunes\, Postdoctoral Fellow (
B Finlay’s lab) Michael Smith Laboratories UBC\, Vancouver\, Cette conf
érence sera prononcée en anglaisRésumé Host-microbe interactions have
been studied for many decades\, mostly through targeted analyses of host r
esponses to infection. However\, global studies of these interactions are
indispensable if we are to truly understand their intricacies. In this tal
k\, I will highlight our recent work using metabolomics to shed light on u
nappreciated interactions between mammals and their intestinal microbes\,
both commensals and pathogens. Our work indicates that small molecules rep
resent an important\, yet underappreciated\, facet of the interactions bet
ween microbes and their hosts. Studying these molecules and the interactio
ns dependent upon them will likely reveal a wealth of fundamental biologic
al processes involved in human health and disease.Conférence présentée
