SUMMARY:Introduction to configurational approach : Taxonomy and typology
DESCRIPTION:Half-day workshop presented by the Department of Family Medici
ne of McGill University with Roxane Borges Da Silva\, PhD\, Assistant Pro
fessor\, Faculty of Nursing\, Université de Montréal.In health services
research\, building typologies and taxonomies are popular methods. The ter
ms ‘typology’ and ‘taxonomy’ are often used synonymously. However\
, the scientific definitions and research methods associated to these two
concepts are different. The purpose of this workshop is to propose a theor
etical model from organization studies (configurational approach) in which
the concepts of typology and taxonomy\, and related methods\, are clearly
  defined.AudienceClinician-researchers\, graduate students\, post- doctora
l fellows\, research professionals and researchers in primary health care
domains such as information\, family medicine\, nursing and management amo
ng others.Learning objectivesThis workshop aims to provide an introduction
to the configurational approach. After attending this workshop\, particip
ants will be able to : Distinguish between a typology and a taxonomy using
this approach\;Understand methods for building typologies and taxonomies.
The specific objectives are to demonstrate and discuss methods\, ‘hands-
on’ practical applications\, and the potential contributions of typologi
es and taxonomies. Registration will be taken on a first come first serve
