SUMMARY:Conférence du Professeur Alex Bunker (Helsinki)
DESCRIPTION:Titre : Poly(ethylene glycol) in drug delivery\, why does it w
ork\, and can we do better? All atom molecular dynamics simulation provid
es some answers. .La conférence sera prononcée par le professeur Alex
Bunker du Centre for Drug Research de l'Université d'Helsinki (Finlande).
Elle sera donnée en anglais.Résumé : Poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) has a
n important role in drug delivery as a protective coating in pharmaceutica
l nanotechnology\,  or as a covalently bound congugate of drug molecules.
The mechanism through which PEG performs its function is not clearly unde
rstood. This is a highly relevant issue\, as the search for a a superior a
lternative polymer to PEG is a very active field. We have used all atom mo
lecular dynamics simulation to study this. We have performed simulations o
f the PEGylated liposome surface. We have studies the effect of liposome f
ormulation\, and interactions with salt ions in the bloodstream and target
ing ligands on the liposome surface. We have also studied the interaction
between PEG and three drugs for which it is used as a delivery aid: paclit
axel\, piroxicam\, and hematoporphyrin. Information supplémentaire
