This series of paintings is about failure. They are pictures of the built environment in a state of deterioration, abandonment, or at their catastrophic end. The images come from newspapers, my own photographs, or video stills. I intentionally paint the image - rather than a scene directly - to load the paintings with a still and quiet quality. I’ve painted these landscapes to represent fading human enterprise. Industry, like our existence, has a lifespan.
