DESCRIPTION:« UNDER WATER » À dessein d'explorer\, à mille lieues sous 
 les mers\, la diversité culturelle\, inspirée de la flore et de la faune
  sous-marine\, l'exposition Under Water de l'artiste torontois Ed Pien\, p
 longe au cœur d'une esthétique des profondeurs abyssales. À la rencontr
 e d'un imaginaire oscillant entre l'aspect décoratif et ornemental de cr
 éatures calligraphiées à la maniera de chinoiseries1 de planches d'illu
 strations de la biologie marine d'Ernst Haeckel2 et d'univers fantasmagori
 ques\, elle exemplifie deux horizons susceptibles de réhabiliter un senti
 ment de continuité entre deux cultures : l'Orient et l'Occident. L'un cul
 butant dans l'exotisme de l'Autre\, pour mieux se reconnaître mutuellemen
 t\, compose une collection de dessins intitulée Two Worlds\, l'autre cult
 ivant une fascination pour le grotesque\, l'enclose pour mieux l'apprivois
 er dans l'examen de quatre papiers découpés enchevêtrés de rêveries e
 t de mystères aquatiques. Designed as an exploration of cultural diversit
 y inspired by underwater flora and fauna a thousand leagues beneath the se
 as\, the exhibition Under Water by Toronto artist Ed Pien dives into the h
 eart of an unfathomably profound aesthetic. A meeting of the imaginary tha
 t swings between the decorative\, ornamental aspect of calligraphed creatu
 res rendered in the chinoiserie1 style\, Ernst Haeckel's2 plates depicting
  sea life forms and phantasmagorical worlds\, the exhibition illuminates t
 wo horizons that evoke a feeling of continuity between two cultures: the E
 ast and the West. One horizon\, pinwheeling into the exoticism of the Othe
 r towards a better mutual understanding\, is comprised of a collection of 
 drawings entitled Two Worlds. The other\, four paper-cuts of interwoven wa
 ter dreams and mysteries\, cultivates a fascination for the grotesque and
