Moving Victims' Rights Forward : Rights Require Remedy

Cet événement, financé par le Ministère de la justice du Canada et organisé par l'équipe de recherche Victimologie et justice réparatrice (Centre international de criminologie comparée) dans le cadre de la Semaine nationale de sensibilisation aux victimes d'actes criminels 2012, se déroulera en anglais, avec traduction simultanée en français.

13h00-15h00 : Conférence du Prof. Doug Beloof (Lewis and Clark Law School, Secretary of the National Crime Victims Law Institute-USA) intitulée « Moving Victims' Rights Forward : Rights Require Remedy - Aller de l'avant avec les droits des victimes : Les recours judiciaires comme condition de leur effectivité ».

Résumé de la conférence

« 20 years after the adoption of the Loi sur l'aide aux victimes d'actes criminels (1988) by the Quebec government, victims' rights are not always respected and victims have no recourse when their rights are neglected. Elsewhere in the world victims' rights have made incredible advances in domestic and international criminal law. The aim of this workshop is to raise awareness about the importance of enforceable rights. We will look at the introduction of legal rights for victims in the USA, the impact this has had on victims and how this has affected their standing in criminal court ».

Participants will receive a copy of the new special issue of Criminologie on victims' rights. This information will be useful for victim advocates, policy-makers and criminal justice personnel.
